The school is a charity serving the area. It does agricultural research, experimentation and training. Formed in the early 1930s, since 1997 it has become an experimental centre dedicated to the protection of local biodiversity, especially the old grape varieties from the western Piedmont, with a collection of 70 so-called lesser varieties in its own vineyard.
It also offers technical assistance to the producers of Pinerolo and, since 2006, it has undertaken production and marketing and makes available its skills, facilities and equipment for wine production by third parties. In its micro-winery, in fact, in addition to experimental wines, it gets grapes from the vineyards of Bibiana, Prarostino and Rocca di Cavour: Barbera, Bonarda, Freisa and other table grapes.
